How do I make my research open access? Last Updated: Aug 05, 2024 Views: 87
Lancaster University Open Access Policy asks for research papers to be made Open Access.
There are two main routes to Open Access – Green (free, via repository deposit) and Gold (pay-to-publish, via publishers):
Green free route: Lancaster University supports the Green (free) method of Open Access as the institutional cultural norm. Under Green open access, researchers deposit their author accepted manuscript (as soon as it has been accepted) in Lancaster University's Pure Research Information System and also a relevant subject repository if desired. A CC BY licence should be applied and no embargo needs to be applied as Lancaster has a Rights Retention policy.
Gold pay-to-publish route: this involves researchers paying the journal publisher a fee (commonly known as an Article Processing Charge). On payment of the APC, the publisher then provides free online access to the article. Lancaster University Library has entered into many Read and Publish agreements that allow the Lancaster corresponding author to publish at no cost to themselves - see criteria for these agreements.
There may be funding available to pay for gold open access outside of these agreements. Please see further details in the 'Requesting open access funding' section of our webpage.
