How do I download journal articles?

OneSearch

OneSearch allows you to search and download articles from our over 300 databases and over 150,000 indexed journals so will always offer you the best link to download full-text articles, and if unavailable it will allow you to request an 'Interlibrary Loan'.  If you type the title of the article (preferably in quotation marks for speed) it will retrieve the paper as well as any letters related to the paper, or retractions.

Rapid Interlibrary Loan

The library cannot subscribe to all academic papers, and the increased costs of some larger journal subscriptions have resulted in a reduction in the immediately available full-text. If you search for a paper unavailable in our collections, OneSearch will respond with "No Records Found"

Please read the guidance on How do I request an interlibrary loan using OneSearch? which includes information on requesting papers within OneSearch.

Browsing the Web, Google Scholar and Browser plugins

While browsing on campus articles will often automatically download, with links embedded in websites such as Google Scholar or PubMed. However when journals are unavailable or when browsing off-campus this won't always happen.  The library offers the browser enhancement plugins Endnote Click and Lean Library, which are connected to OneSearch. and it is recommended to choose one.

Reading Individual Journals Table of Contents (TOCS)

If you wish to browse lists of journals and review the latest editions, sometimes called a TOC or "Table of Contents", you will find a searchable list in the OneSearch Ejournals link

Manual Request (Last Resort Requests)

Some niche subject areas might not be available through our systems, if the steps above have failed please manually request via the OneSearch Resource Request Form. This will be slower than other methods as all requests will be reviewed by the library team.
